12 Essentials During the First 12 Weeks

Time is flying by guys! My twins are 3 months old already. I keep saying it, but they really do bring so much joy, and I’m savoring this precious time. It’s been so long since I’ve had little babies, so while some things never change, there have been so many new things this go around, some of which I wish was around when my older kids were babies. Whether you are an expectant parent or a friend or loved one of a new parent, today’s post is for you. I’m highlighting all of our baby essentials over the first 12 weeks. Let’s face it, it’s easy to go overboard and buy all the things, and to a degree babies need a lot (especially in my case times two, lol). However, I’m here to help weed out the unnecessary and highlight the things that have been most helpful and put to use over the past 3 months.

1 — Diaper Changing

Pampers and Huggies have been our go tos. Size newborn, 1 and 2 are perfect for this phase.

Boudreaux’s butt paste and Aquafor have been our top picks for keeping diaper rash away.

Pampers and Huggies are our top brand choices for baby wipes.

We have 2 changing pads in the nursery and we get good use out of them.

2 — Feeding

Although my breastfeeding journey has been more difficult with twins, my Medela pump was really helpful over the first 2 months.

The Twin Z Pillow has been a lifesaver for the twins to lounge and feed on.

We love Dr. Brown’s bottles. They are perfect for breast milk or formula feedings. 4 oz and 5 oz bottles have been used most during this phase.

The Milky Mate Deluxe is a game changer! It holds the bottle up while baby drinks - genius!

3 — On the Go

4 — Clothing

5 — Soothing

6 —Drool Control

Bandana bibs are so stylish and functional

Buy tons of these and thank me later.

These get daily use, so a true essential.

7 — Sleeping

Lifesaver to help baby sleep a little longer at night.

We used bassinets for the first 2 months.

Bedding sets are ideal for a complete nursery look.

We started the twins in their cribs at 2 months old.

8 — Health and Grooming

This set gets weekly use, especially with the comb, brush and nail clipper.

Most babies don’t need tylenol; however, this comes in handy when they get their shots.

9 — Sleep and Playpen

10 — Entertainment

11 — Bath Time

12 — Support

Last, but certainly not least, is support. All new parents need support. The support of your child’s pediatrician, the support of your spouse or co-parent, support from grandparents and godparents, and many more. Mothers especially need support as we not only have to care for our newborns, but we’re also trying to simultaneously care for ourselves emotionally and physically post delivery, which is a lot. Support looks different for everyone, but I encourage you to seek it out and/or accept it when it’s offered. I remember one of my friends asking me what I needed a few weeks after the twins were born. I could’ve easily said “oh girl, we don’t need anything”, but that would’ve been a lie. Instead I was honest and said we could use some more diapers and wipes. Sure enough, 2 boxes of diapers and 2 boxes of wipes were delivered; thus, taking something off of my list for that week. So again, I hope you’ll get whatever support you can use.

I hope you find this round up of baby essentials helpful. What else would you add to this list? Let me know in the comments.

Have a glowing day!
