Water Challenge

Water challenge! Who’s in? I shared previously on Instagram that I’ve been working on my water intake for the past couple months. I’m a challenge and accountability kind of girl (hence my participation in this month’s blog challenge), so I did a water challenge back in May. Since then, drinking water more often has become a habit.

Prior to May, there were literally days that I went without drinking any water. Insert the water challenge, where drank 2 liters of water a day for 7 days straight. That likely sounds like a piece of cake for some of you, but for the others who are like I was, it’s truly a challenge. However, I’m proud to say I completed the challenge and developed a great habit because of it. In doing the challenge, the following worked for me:

Sipping throughout the day

When I first started the challenge, I would drink 8 ounces at the top of the hour, every 2 hours. However, after day 1, I switched to simply sipping my glass of water throughout the day and refilling when it got low. I noticed this change versus drinking on the hour helped me to finish my 64 ounces by bedtime, and I felt more refreshed throughout day.

Fruit Infused Water

This is a big 1 for me. The only way I can get the 64 ounces in is if my water is fruit infused. Regular bottle water just doesn’t do it for me unless I’m exercising. My go to is lemon, cucumber and strawberry infused water, and it’s so tasty and refreshing! It reminds me of a trip to the spa. Sometimes I’ll add in oranges or more recently mint. I’m telling y’all it’s a game changer — try it! What I do is cut up the fruit and place a couple slices of each fruit in a pitcher, then I fill it with water. I let it sit for 30 minutes to get the flavor going, then pour my glass and drink. Another alternative is to put 1 piece of each fruit in your water glass and then keep filling the glass with water, as it gets low.

Accountability

Last but not least, accountability in life in general is an asset. For the challenge, I knew I was prone to quit if I did it alone, so my best friend joined in with me. To my surprise, when I shared what I was doing on Instagram, tons of other women decided to join in with us. We did check-ins and posts throughout the week on IG stories, and it definitely motivated me not to quit. At the end of the 7 days, it felt so good to have played a small part in helping others and myself do better with our daily water intake.

Now, two months later, I’m much more mindful to drink water daily and have noticed the benefits when I get at least 64 ounces in. I highly encourage anyone to do a challenge with any habit you’re trying to form. If you want to kick off your own personal water challenge, I’d love to hear and I hope the steps above help you. Please tag me on Instagram @shalycetyson if you do; I’d love to cheer you on.

It’s hot outside, so stay hydrated friends!

Have a glowing day!
