Hairstyling at Home: The Products I Use
It’s Tip Tuesday! A relative texted me last week asking about what hair products I use, so today I’m sharing my go to products. Now, I’m no hair stylist, and in fact, I try to go see my stylist every two weeks. Kachina of Salon Cest Chic is honestly the reason why my relaxed hair has been thriving for the past 8+ years. To maintain my hair myself in between salon visits, I try to use good products that focus on moisture, healthy scalp, and strengthening.
DRY SCALP
I use to struggle a lot with dry scalp, I mean it used to be dandruff city just 5 - 7 days after a shampoo. However, since I’ve been increasing my water intake and getting twice a year scalp treatments, my scalp hasn’t been nearly as dry as it used to be, and I can go 2 weeks easy with no issues. Additionally, this is due to using great healthy products at home to include:
Aloe + Coal Shampoo and Conditioner — This product by black owned company, T. Spruill, is amazing! I began using it during the pandemic, and the results have been speaking for themselves through my clean scalp.
Mizani’s Puriphying Shampoo — I’ve been using this shampoo for years, and I love it. It’s typically my first lather when washing my hair to cleanse my scalp and hair.
Mizani’s Scalp Care Shampoo — I’ve been using this product for about a year, and it’s scalp formula has been beneficial.
On wash day, I generally use 1 or 2 of the above in lieu of all 4, and alternate for the next wash day.
MOISTURIZE + CONDITION
Whether you have relaxed or natural hair, products that moisturize and condition can be so beneficial. Of course with dry scalp in mind, moisture is always important for me. I found out about an amazing black owned company during the pandemic, Mielle Organics, and got a huge haul of products during their anniversary sale. You can check them all out here, along with the other moisturizing and conditioning products I use. My favorite of the haul are the Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing and Anti Breakage Shampoo and the Babassu Conditioning Shampoo. Last week, I tried the Hawaiian Ginger overnight conditioner; honestly, because I was too lazy to finish my hair lol. But the silver lining was the product worked amazing on my hair, so I’ll be adding this into my routine.
The snapshot above is just a highlight of the products I use the most, but you can find the full list here. I hope you find some new products that do the trick for your hair like they’ve been doing for mine. What are some hair products you love? Share below.
Have a glowing day!
