7 Black Owned Brands I Love (that are sold in Target)

When it comes to products and services, I’m always on the hunt to try out more black owned brands. As a black entrepreneur myself for nearly 10 years, I know how important it is for our businesses to not only have visibility, but also revenue. With stores like Target that are a one stop shop, I love finding black owned brands represented amongst the wide array of products. Today, I’m sharing a round up of some black owned brands I love that are sold in Target, so that hopefully the next time you walk down the aisles or shop online, you’ll check them out.

The Honey Pot

They had me at organic and black woman-owned! The Honey Pot’s line of feminine care is 5 star. Their products contain no toxins, artificial fragrance, or anything synthetic, plus they make you feel fresh and clean, while maintaining your pH balance. Win-Win! I previously used another brand of feminine care products for years, but have been sold on the Honey Pot well over a year now.

My Must Haves: Foaming Wash | Pantiliners | Tampons | Feminine Wipes | Panty Spray

Anser

They had me at supplements and Tia Mowry. I’m a huge fan of her Whole New You cookbook, which has amazing healthy recipes that don’t cause digestion issues like many other foods do for me (i.e. dairy, gluten). When I heard she co-founded a vitamin company, I knew I had to give them a try. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. The two supplements I’ve tried from Anser are the Healthy Mood and Digestive Comfort. When taken consistently, I’ve noticed a difference in my mood and feel less bloated (which I struggle with from time to time). Anser has so many other options as well, from a Multivitamin to Kids elderberry gummies. They are definitely worth giving a try to incorporate in your health and well-being regimen.

The Lip Bar

One of my good friends put me on to the Lip Bar years ago shortly after they launched. It has been so inspiring seeing how much the company has grown in less than a decade. And they’ve grown and achieved so much success for good reason…their makeup is amazing! A bold red lip is one of my signatures, and The Lip Bar’s Haute Mess never steers me wrong. I’ve also fallen in love with their tinted moisturizer (with SPF 11), which is all I’ve been wearing all summer long. The Lip Bar has everything for your make up needs.

Culture Tags

This has easily become my favorite game! I had the pleasure of attending Culture Tags Live just before the pandemic hit last year, and it was such a fun night. The game itself transforms popular black sayings, songs, quotes and more into hashtags. It also features a wide variety of categories. For example, the category could be church, and the culture tag might be WHDI. In order for you/your team to guess the tag, the person giving the clue might say, “this was something Tamar Braxton said often on Braxton Family Values” or “if someone wants to testify about something great God has done, they might say this”. The answer to WHDI is Won’t He Do It. Let me tell you - this game is a must have! Grab it for your next game night, family reunion or just because here.

Partake

Not only are Partake cookies delicious, but they are vegan and top 8 allergen and gluten free! I listened to the owner, Denise Woodard’s story on the Side Hustle Pro podcast some time ago, and I was so inspired. The heart behind the brand is this mom creating what she wished existed not only for her daughter, but so many others, too. The story truly makes these cookies so much more than just a tasty snack. My kids love them, and they come in so many yummy flavors!

My Must Have: Chocolate Chip Crunchy Cookies

SheaMoisture

Wash day for my daughter has not always been easy, but the Shea Moisture kids line has helped me to cleanse and detangle her hair, while helping it to grow healthy and long. We’ve been using their shampoos and conditioners for a few years now and love them. I also love some of their skincare items for myself.

My Must Have: Manuka Honey & Yogurt Healthy Glow Pressed Serum Moisturizer (they had me at glow!)

Cassidy’s Must Haves: Mango & Carrot Nourishing Shampoo | Mango & Carrot Nourishing Conditioner | Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo and Conditioner | Curl & Shine Shampoo

Mielle Organics

I tried Mielle products for the first time a year or so ago during their huge anniversary sale, and I’ve been stuck on them ever since. In between salon visits, their shampoos and conditioners do wonders on my hair. I get compliments often from people saying my hair looks healthy and asking what products I use. Well, if I had to guess, I would say at least 60% of my hair products are Mielle Organics at this point.

My Must Haves: Rosemary Mint Strengthening Shampoo | Rosemary Mint Edge Control | Babassu and Mint Conditioner | Babassu Conditioning Shampoo

I hope you enjoy checking out these brands, if you haven’t already. In the comments, share some of your favorite black-owned brands — whether sold in Target or not. And spoiler alert — Buy Black Black Friday will be back again! It was such a huge success last year, and I’m excited to host this showcase again this year on Friday, November 26th. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming weeks.

Have a glowing day!
